VP has her lines in appr half scale
  • Norwegian burial ship Longship appr 23 m
  • Built 850 - 950 , Found 1880
  • Depl calculated to appr 28 ton with 40-60 men
  • Mast height 12 mtr. Sail area appr 70 sqmetres
  • 16 pair of oars through holes, 32 shields (black or yellow)
  • Iron riveted, but ribs lashed to lowest boards (= elastic hull!)
  • Steering oar length 3,3 m
  • Max speed probably 15 - 20 knots!

OSEBERG

VP has rich ornaments of very high class
  • Norwegian burial ship, a pleasure ship for queen Aasa
  • Built 9 th century, found 1903, length 21 m
  • Lower hull, probably built for pleasure trips in calm waters

  • To be hauled passing wild rapids
  • Typical length 11-14 m
  • Crew 10 - 15 men
